Advanced Laser Eye Surgery Equipment

At LASERSIGHT, we pride ourselves in offering state-of-the-art equipment and the most up to date technology for a wide range of eye surgeries and therapies.

Our specialised instruments provide highly accurate measurements of the eyes and precise surgical procedures to deliver 100% blade free surgery for every patient.

Zeiss VisuMax is a high-performance femtosecond laser system that boasts outstanding cutting precision, exceptional speed and a gentle treatment approach.

VisuMax is the first, and until now, only laser platform to perform the minimally invasive, flapless ReLEx SMILE® procedure for patients with myopia and astigmatism. Boasting several other features which are essential to make accurate cuts with minimum tissue distortion, VisuMax is at the forefront of the third generation of laser vision correction, a procedure that is redefining refractive laser surgery as we know it.

This Wavelight laser can track the movement of your eye in every 3D dimension. This ensures that when the Laser correction is performed, the treatment is always precisely centred on your visual axis to provide the most accurate result. It tracks 10 times faster than the eye can move, which means that even if you move your eye during the correction, it will not affect the outcome. It has Wavefront Optimisation designed to preserve the cornea's natural shape for the clearest vision.

Based on the proven Pentacam HR technology, this diagnostic device provides non-contact measurement and analysis of the complete anterior eye segment. The integrated, rotating camera takes up to 50 pictures in real-time measurement with up to 138,000 measuring points – providing high-resolution data from the corneal centre, which enables a three-dimensional analysis.

Our Experienced Laser Eye Surgeon Team In Brisbane

Led by founding surgeon Dr Peter Stewart, who pioneered the LASIK procedure in Australasia in July 1995, our Brisbane laser eye surgeons are some of the most highly respected LASIK and refractive correction practitioners in Australasia.

Peter Stewart

Peter Stewart - MBBS (QLD), FRANZCO

Dr Peter Stewart is the Director of Surgery at LASERSIGHT. He graduated from the University of Queensland in 1973 and began General Medical Practice in far western Queensland. Following an inspirational meeting with Professor Fred Hollows, Peter began his training in Ophthalmology in Sydney with Prof. Hollows.

Dr Stewart has been a progressive and innovative surgeon on the Sunshine Coast for the past thirty three years. During the early 1990s he pioneered 'no stitch' cataract surgery in Australia.

Peter's aim, initially for emmetropia (no glasses) following cataract surgery, continues to drive his enthusiasm for refractive surgery.

Peter's dream was to establish a team of specialists in cataract, retinal, oculo-plastic and refractive surgery, and link this with a Day Surgery facility. He has achieved this with the Sunshine Coast Eye Care Specialists, Sunshine Coast Day Surgery and LASERSIGHT at Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

LASERSIGHT has training centres, theatres and consultation rooms in other areas of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania to which patients travel from around the world.

Peter is dedicated to excellence in the training and education of Eye Surgeons and Eye Care Practitioners throughout Australasia, and was the LASIK trainer of ophthalmologists in Australasia and has now trained more than 300 ophthalmologists since the establishment of LASERSIGHT in 1996.

Dr Stewart has lectured and presented papers extensively in USA, Sth America, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Philippines, Jakarta, New Zealand and Australia.

Peter Beckingsale

Peter Beckingsale - MBBS, FRANZCO

Dr Peter Beckingsale graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1996 and completed his residency and ophthalmology training in Brisbane. He was awarded the ARVO and RANZCO/Allergan scholarships. He then went to England for fellowship training at The West of England Eye Unit and then the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead where he underwent subspecialty training in corneal, anterior segment and refractive surgery.

Dr Beckingsale practices primarily in the areas of corneal and refractive surgery. As well as routine refractive and cataract surgery, he has a special interest in more complex refractive cases such as treatment of corneal scars. He has helped pioneer the technique of corneal endothelial transplantation, of which he has performed more than any other surgeon in Australia. His research interests include new treatments such as using the Intralase femtosecond laser for corneal surgery, topography guided LASIK for complex cases and corneal rings and crosslinking for keratoconus.

Dr Beckingsale is a refractive surgeon with LASERSIGHT, working in the Brisbane facility. He is a member of the Corneal Society and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland, Assistant Medical Director of the Queensland Eye Bank.
