Patrick Versace

MBBS, FRANZCO, Dip, Anaes

Doctor Patrick Versace is a cataract and refractive surgeon with more than 25 years' experience as a specialist ophthalmologist.

He holds appointments as a senior lecturer in Optometry and medicine at The University of New South Wales and Staff Specialist ophthalmologist at The Prince of Wales Hospital Randwick and Sydney Eye Hospital providing clinical service and registrar surgical training. After gaining Anaesthetic qualifications in London Dr Versace completed his specialist ophthalmology training with Sydney Eye Hospital to become a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

He pursued an early passion for refractive surgery to become one of the first ophthalmologists to subspecialise in Laser Vision Correction in Australia. As a lead surgeon with LASERSIGHT, Dr Versace gained experience in all aspects of refractive correction surgery and was involved in the development of several techniques including the use of aberrometry to guide surgical correction.

He became a founding partner of Vision Group Australia (later to be known as Vision Eye Institute) treating many thousands of patients with Laser Vision correction and premium lens implant surgery working closely with optometry through shared care, educational CPD related activity, University teaching to both undergraduates and postgraduates and joint research initiatives.

Prior to embarking on a sub-specialty career path Dr Versace worked in a clinical teaching capacity with 'Project Orbis' as an ophthalmic anaesthetist travelling through Central and South America, a formative experience leading to an ongoing commitment to skills exchange teaching programs such as time in Myanmar teaching modern phaco cataract surgery.

Dr Versace has been involved in numerous clinical trials and is often an invited speaker at international meetings-most recently as Gold Medal lecturer at the Nethradhama meeting in India. He regularly contributes to the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery giving lectures and participating in symposia.

As a member of the TGA Ophthalmic Clinical Advisory Group and specialist advisor to the ACMD (Advisory Committee for Medical Devices-Canberra) Dr Versace contributes to the safe introduction of new technologies to Australia.

Dr Versace's approach to practice and surgery is customised, collaborative care using appropriate and modern technology in a safe environment.

Kenneth Ooi

He has completed his ophthalmology training through Prince of Wales and a Master of Surgery (Ophthalmology) with University College London and the University of Adelaide. He undertook clinical research fellowships in cornea at the Prince of Wales and Sydney Eye Hospitals in Sydney and in uveitis at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Institute of Ophthalmology in London.

He is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Save Sight Institute, Sydney Eye Hospital Campus and is a Conjoint Lecturer at the School of Medical Sciences, UNSW.

He has been awarded research grants and is currently conducting dry eye research through the Save Sight Institute, University of Sydney.

Tanya Trinh

MBBS (UQ), FRANZCO

Dr. Trinh is a fully qualified ophthalmologist in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery.

Dr Trinh completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of QLD where she was awarded a scholarship in Medical Leadership and the Australian Medical Association of Queensland Harold Plant Prize for Best All Rounded Graduate.

Dr Trinh completed her ophthalmology specialist training under the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in Queensland. She embarked upon an advanced two-year fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada where she developed extensive expertise in corneal transplantation, pterygium surgery, ocular surface regeneration, complex anterior segment surgery and refractive surgery including LASIK, PRK and corneal collagen crosslinking for the treatment of keratoconus.

Dr Trinh was awarded the position of Chief Fellow of the University of Toronto and was also awarded the Family Lim Memorial Award for the subspecialty surgeon exemplifying best surgical and teaching skills.

Dr Trinh then undertook a research fellowship in laser cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, dry eye treatments and ocular surface disease. She has published over 20 scientific journal articles in national and international journals, written book chapters on advanced corneal transplantation techniques and ocular surface disease and is a regular presenter on the national and international conference circuits. She teaches medical students, residents, registrars and fellows, is involved in the development of anterior segment curriculum teaching at the University of Toronto and contributes regularly to community optometry education. She is also a clinical associate lecturer for the University of QLD.

Dr Trinh is a professional member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Cornea Society, the Refractive Surgery Alliance, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Armand Borovik

MBBS, FRANZCO

Dr Borovik is an eye surgeon, also referred to as an `Ophthalamic Surgeon', who specialises in Cataract, Corneal, and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Borovik undertook training in Ophthalmology at Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney. During his final year, he served as the Senior Professorial Registrar. He completed a two-year specialised fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada, under Dr. David Rootman, a world-renowned surgeon. Here, he obtained experience with all aspects of corneal surgery, including as minimally invasive partial thickness transplanting procedures and the implantation of artificial corneas. During this fellowship, Dr Borovik gained extensive surgical expertise in refractive surgery, which encompasses laser vision correction and implantable lens surgery.

Dr. Borovik has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented numerous lectures at international conferences, such as those hosted by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, which he is a member of. He has also served as a surgical instructor for courses in corneal surgery and complex ocular surgical techniques, helping to train surgeons of the future.

Dr. Borovik is devoted to addressing the vision and eye care needs of the Sutherland Shire and South Coast communities.
