Marc Wei

MBBS (QLD), FRANZCO

Dr Marc Wei is one of our principle specialist LASIK and cataract surgeons.

He graduated from University of Queensland Medical School in 1989 and underwent specialist training in ophthalmology at Royal Brisbane, Princess Alexandra and Mater Hospitals in Brisbane, culminating the Fellowship of Ophthalmology in 1998.

Upon completion of specialist training Australia, he obtained further subspecialty training in glaucoma, cataract and paediatric ophthalmology at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children and at Kings College Hospital, London, UK.

Dr Wei has been one of LASERSIGHT's principle surgeons since 2000. He is experienced in all refractive procedures including Advanced PRK, LASIK, ICL, lens surgery ie: multifocal IOL. He has completed over 15,000 procedures!

He is a member of the American Academy Of Ophthalmology , European Society of Refractive and Cataract surgeons and the Australasian Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons and is actively involved in research and presentations at ophthalmic conferences.

Dr Wei presents regularly at international conferences and is a lecturer at Bond and Griffith university. He also visits Myanmar yearly to volunteer his time.

Brett Drury

Dr Brett Drury is a specialist refractive, corneal and cataract surgeon on the Gold Coast, Queensland. He has undertaken advanced surgical training at world-leading institutions, the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.

Dr Drury has completed multiple subspecialty training fellowships in corneal and refractive surgery, glaucoma surgery and P.E.R.F.E.C.T. for Pterygium® surgery. This extensive training has made him highly regarded in the field and enables him to manage the full spectrum of anterior eye conditions from common to complex.

With a passion for education and appreciation for those who have taught him throughout his career, Dr Drury also supervises the training of future Ophthalmologists in the Queensland ophthalmology training program.

He consults at LASERSIGHT in Southport, Queensland, for patients of all ages seeking independence from glasses and contact lenses through laser refractive surgery (PRK, LASIK) or intraocular surgery (cataract surgery, lens exchange, multifocal IOL, ICL implantation).

Frank Howes

MBChB, MMed, FCS, FRCS, FRCOphth, FRANZCO

Dr Frank Howes is a well renowned ophthalmic surgeon who specialises in cataract and refractive surgery, and corneal diseases such as keratoconus. He is highly regarded in many laser eye procedures including LASIK, PRK (ASLA), SMILE, ICL and refractive lens exchange (sometimes known as clear lens exchange or lensectomy). Dr Howes is also one of the leading surgeons in the surgical treatments for glaucoma.

Dr Howes has been lecturing medical and optometry students at QUT and Bond University where he holds an associate Professorship. He still continues with his work with lasers, including his interests in assisting with Nd:YAG laser design to facilitate lysis of vitreous floaters and membranes.

Dr Howes also has an interest in phakic IOL's and was amongst the first in Australasia to insert the ICL for the correction of high refractive error. He contributed to the research and commercialisation of Glaucoma Drugs. He has a strong interest in academic medicine which prompted him to become a reviewer of a number of ophthalmic journals and to write the 15 chapters on cataract surgery over the 6 editions of the Yanoff and Duker text book of Ophthalmology.
