US Navy to provide approx 70,000 members Free Lasik Vision Correction

Chris Amos - Staff writer for the US navy Times writes in a recent article that the United States Navy will provide up to 70,000 sailors and marines with free Lasik vision correction by October 2007.

Also, in the final stages of administrative approval are changes to allow US Navy and Marine Pilots to undergo Lasik. In the past, Lasik was considered a risk due to the extreme conditions that pilots work under, including gravitational forces, low oxygen levels, wind blasts and dry air. Studies have now shown the flap to be stable, except in instances of direct manual pressure on the eye. Read article
