What is LASIK Laser Eye Surgery?

LASIK (Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis) is an advanced virtually painless procedure combining conventional ocular surgery with state of the art excimer laser surgical technology, allowing for the correction of myopia(short-sightedness), hypermetropia (far-sightedness), astigmatism and presbyopia (the need for reading glasses).

The first LASIK procedure was performed in 1989, though excimer lasers have been used in the correction of refractive errors since 1986.

To date, more than 6.5 million LASIK procedures have been successfully performed.
